Short on time? If you are just skimming through, here are the top spots you absolutely cannot miss: Hanumangarh Trek, Bangoru Waterfall, Chokling Monastery, Sherabling Monastery, Baijnath Temple, Billing Takeoff Point, Bir Landing Site, and Gunehar Waterfall.
Introduction
When you hear ‘Bir Billing’, the first thing that probably comes to mind is paragliding. And obviously, the sight of colorful gliders soaring against the breathtaking backdrop of the Dhauladhar range is iconic. But there is a quiet, grounded magic to Bir that often takes first-time visitors by surprise.
Beyond the adrenaline of the launchpad, this Himalayan town is a beautiful tapestry of vibrant Tibetan culture, dense pine forests, and hidden trails that invite you to slow down. Whether you are chasing the ultimate sunset, seeking spiritual solace in a centuries-old monastery, or preparing for your first tandem flight, this village holds a different kind of adventure for everyone. Here is your ultimate guide to the best places to visit in Bir Billing.
1. Hanumangarh Trek

If you are someone who loves a good trail, believe me, you must do the Hanumangarh trek while you are in Bir. It is a beginner-friendly hike of about 5-6 km (one way) that takes you through dense oak and deodar forests. The summit rewards you with a complete, uninterrupted 360-degree view of the mighty Dhauladhar range. The best part? It remains relatively uncrowded, offering pure mountain serenity.
2. Bangoru Waterfall
This spot is perfect for those who crave a little adventure. Reaching Bangoru Waterfall requires a 2 km hike through a scenic forest trail with some massive rocks along the way. This perennial waterfall flows year-round, with crystal-clear water coming directly from the Dhauladhar glaciers.
Pro Tip: You can hire a local guide near the base for about ₹200 per person to help you navigate the rocky path safely.
3. Chokling Monastery

Located conveniently near the Bir Tibetan Colony market, Chokling Monastery boasts stunning traditional Tibetan architecture. It is the perfect retreat for anyone looking for some peace and meditation.
P.S. – The vibrant colors and intricate details make it a fantastic spot to click some highly aesthetic photos for your Instagram!

Book Now4. Sherabling Monastery
Tucked away in the serene foothills of the Bhatu pine forest near Bir, Sherabling is the largest monastery in the area. The route to reach the monastery is incredibly scenic, covered with towering pine trees and colorful prayer flags fluttering in the wind. Although photography is restricted inside the main halls, the forest route leading up to it offers some of the best photo ops in Bir.
5. Baijnath Temple

Located just 15-16 km from Bir, the historic Baijnath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Local legend says that Ravana worshipped Lord Shiva at this exact spot, which is why the people of Baijnath do not celebrate Dussehra to this day.
Pro Tip: There are two ways to reach here—take the route through the pine forest and return via the main road for the most scenic drive. Also, if you are a fan of heritage rides, you can catch a toy train from the nearby Ahju station!
6. Billing (The Takeoff Point)
At an altitude of 8000 ft, Billing is the famous takeoff point for paragliding. While most people go there just to fly or watch the gliders launch, I highly recommend staying a night there in the mountain camps. Witnessing the sunset from above the clouds is magical, and if the skies are clear, the stargazing here is absolutely unmatched.
7. Bir Landing Site
This is arguably the most vibrant and beautiful place in all of Bir. You can sit here for hours watching colorful paragliders land safely against the mountain backdrop, observe students learning to fly, or just enjoy the impromptu acoustic jamming sessions that happen on the grass. The most famous Bir sunset is witnessed right from this very spot. Don’t forget to enjoy a plate of hot, local 'Siddu' while you are here—you will thank me later!
8. Gunehar Waterfall
Hidden away in the neighboring village, Gunehar Waterfall offers a peaceful retreat surrounded by lush tea gardens and pine trees. Reaching the falls requires an easy-to-moderate 20-30 minute trek through forest trails, small streams, and some slippery rocks. If you find the trail tricky, you can easily hire a local guide from the base.
